    Gemstone: Rhodochrosite - 7.94 Cts.
    Sweet Home Mine, Mount Bross
    Alma District, Park Co.
    Colorado, USA

Out of the famous Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, albeit some 100 years before the modern find of the vivid red Rhodochrosite that has effectively become the quintessential American mineral, breathtaking Rhodochrosite was discovered back in 1888. A single crystal weighing a robust 32.61 carats came out of the renowned location and exhibited a cleavage plane running through the last third of the crystal. As a crystal of such color and clarity was a phenomenon, the decision was made to cut through the cleavage plane to produce two of the finest gemstones ever to come out of the site - and from the same crystal. This unbelievable example weighs just shy of 8 carats and offers a spectacular rectangular step cut that really accentuates the major attributes of this massive example of Sweet Home "Rhodo" in a gemstone form. The "1888 Specimen" has provided two unsurpassed Rhodochrosite gemstones for this collection.
    Measurements: 15.28 x 8.30 x 6.06 mm, 7.94 cts.

    Provenance: The Jena Blue Collection
