This lot represents a very unique offering of Opal. This curiosity comes from Mexico and is known as a Matrix Opal, which is play-of-color Opal in Rhyolite matrix, called cantera in Mexico. The bottom of the matrix has been cut flat, and the translucent play-of-color Opal has been faceted to accentuate the internal "fire." All colors of the spectrum are visible with strong rolling flashes in a broad pattern. The gemstone lights up with intense red, green, blue, purple, orange, and yellow. The entire cabochon has been polished and features a high dome. This truly one-of-a-kind offering is not only mesmerizing but also in pristine condition.
