Description
Gemstone: Kunzite - 92.26 Cts.Unknown Locality
This appealing 92.26-carat Kunzite showcases the delicate yet vibrant beauty for which the pink variety of Spodumene is admired. The stone displays a charming bubblegum-pink hue with a purplish pink bodycolor, purplish tones, and subtle orange undertones, creating a dynamic, well-balanced coloration that remains highly saturated across its broad surface. True to the species, the gem exhibits pronounced pleochroism, revealing shifting shades of pink, violet, and orange as the stone moves in the light. Kunzite was first identified in the early twentieth century and named in honor of George Frederick Kunz, the renowned gemologist of Tiffany & Co. Known for producing large crystals of remarkable transparency, the mineral can produce impressive gemstones such as this example. Its romantic color palette and impressive crystal sizes have made Kunzite a favorite among collectors and lapidaries alike. Displaying an elongated oval shape with modified brilliant faceting, the gemstone demonstrates a pleasing, well-proportioned cut that enhances its natural optical properties. Excellent brilliance and intense scintillation are further supported by a fine polish, luster, and eye-clean clarity. The stone is in very good condition overall, with a small cavity and minor nicks present along the girdle. Kunzite is also known for its sensitivity to prolonged exposure to strong light, which can gradually soften its color, a characteristic collectors should consider when displaying or wearing the stone. Despite its impressive size, the well-balanced proportions of this example would still allow it to serve as the centerpiece of a dramatic custom jewelry creation.
Measurements: 33.68 x 22.57 x 16.23 mm, 92.26 cts.
