Description

Gemstone: Kunzite - 248.63 Cts.
Unknown Locality

This substantial 248.63-carat Kunzite displays the romantic pinkish purple hues that have made the variety a favorite among collectors since its introduction in the early 20th Century by famed gemologist George Frederick Kunz of Tiffany & Co. Large crystals of Spodumene are prized for their ability to yield impressive gemstones of notable scale, making specimens of this size particularly desirable. Masterfully executed in a dramatic fantasy pear shape, the gem features crisp, linear step-cut faceting that gives the stone a strong sculptural form. The well-balanced proportions enhance its highly saturated color, while very good brilliance and a fine polish luster bring life to the expansive facets. Natural internal features, including visible growth tubes and liquid inclusions, provide insight into the crystal's formation and add character to the stone. The gem is in overall excellent condition, with only one small nick at the top of the point along a facet junction. Kunzite is also known for its sensitivity to prolonged exposure to strong light, which can gradually soften its color. For this reason, stones of this magnitude are often prized as display specimens, where such impressive size, vivid coloration, and striking faceting can be fully appreciated.
Measurements: 43.09 x 35.34 x 26.65 mm, 248.63 cts.
