Description

Gemstone: Ceylon Sapphire - 6.14 Cts.
Sri Lanka (Ceylon)

Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon, has been one of the world's most celebrated sources of Sapphire for more than two millennia. Gemstones from the island's famed alluvial gravels are admired for their luminous blue tones and intense brilliance. Compared with Sapphires from basaltic deposits such as Thailand or Australia, Sri Lankan material often displays brighter, more open color due to lower Iron content within the crystal structure. This 6.14-carat Sapphire exhibits a vivid, deeply saturated blue bodycolor recognized as the desirable "Royal Blue" moniker. The classic oval shape features mixed-cut faceting, modified brilliant facets across the crown, paired with step-cut facets along the pavilion. The stone shows very good brilliance and pleasing light return. The gem evidences heat treatment, a common and widely accepted practice for Sapphire. Moderately to heavily included, with visible color banding and a slightly off-center culet, the stone is nonetheless in very good overall condition and retains a strong visual presence with vibrant color. Substantial in size for the variety and rich in tone, this Sri Lankan Sapphire offers an appealing example of the classic blue gemstone long favored for fine jewelry, engagement rings, or statement pendants.
Measurements: 11.39 x 8.61 x 7.00 mm, 6.14 cts.
