Sourced from one of the foremost gemstone capitals of the world, Thailand, this Sapphire displays a richly saturated bluish green bodycolor, which exemplifies the deep, moody hues characteristic of Corundum from the region's historic basaltic deposits. Thailand has long been an important center for Sapphire mining and cutting, particularly in the gem fields of Chanthaburi and Kanchanaburi, where Iron-rich geology produces darker tones than Sapphires from metamorphic sources. The gemstone shows no indications of heating, an uncommon attribute that enhances its desirability. It has been cut into a classic cushion shape with mixed-cut faceting, brilliant facets across the crown, and step facets along the pavilion, producing good brilliance and nice depth of color. Sapphire ranks 9 on the Mohs scale, making it one of the most durable gemstones for jewelry. Fine stones exceeding five carats with eye-clean clarity are relatively scarce, particularly those with natural color. This 9.53-carat example is eye-clean and in very good condition overall, with only a few minor nicks along the girdle. Combining impressive size, attractive color, and excellent durability, this Sapphire represents a compelling example of the species suitable for both collectors and fine jewelry.
