It is entertaining to see the change in apparent color when this gem is presented under incandescent versus daylight illumination. The change from a deep sapphire blue to violet is strong, and captivating, in its aesthetic impact. The rough for this oval shaped stone was found in 2003, deep underground in the mines of the Block D concession in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. It was given its final shape by gemstone cutters in Bangkok, Thailand, and the result is eye clean and quite suitable for a stunning pendant or brooch.
