Fine Gemstone: Lavendar Spinel - 10.31 Ct.
Mahenge, Morogoro Region, Tanzania

Spinel, like its close cousin Sapphire, is capable of taking on virtually any color. Here it has decided to be a pinkish-purple that any Barbie aficionado would kill for- figuratively speaking, of course. The raw material for this roseate confection comes from a locality in Tanzania that also produces Sapphire (we told you they were close), a locality called Mahenge. It was found in Mahenge sometime before 1985 when it left for Arusha to be cut into a pear shape, with a modified brilliant rose cut. It shows a slight amount of inclusions but not enough to impair its sparkle and there is no evidence of any treatment to enhance the stone. It is accompanied by AGL Cert #CS 65953 attesting to its wonderfulness.
Measurements: 17.26 x 11.87 x 8.03 mm, 10.31 cts.
