DescriptionFine Gemstone: Iolite - 15.12 Ct.
Betroka District, Anosy Region, Tuléar Province, Madagascar
Mineralogically known as Cordierite, Iolite is so highly dichroic as to define the meaning of the term. Viewed from different directions, Iolite will change color dramatically from dark bluish-violet, to near colorless, to brown. Along the way, Iolite somehow acquired the nickname "poor man's Tanzanite" for its similar color properites. But this triangular shaped example can hold its own ground as a great gemstone. It was found in 2000 and faceted in Bangkok, Thailand.
Measurements: 18.73 x 16.77 x 11.09 mm, 15.12 cts.
Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Rainbow of Africa Collection
