Description

Koroit Opal "Nut"
Elusive Mine, Koroit opal field
Paroo Shire, Queensland
Australia

This stunning Opal was extracted from the Elusive Mine in Queensland, Australia, by legendary prospector Rod Griffin. The rare "nut" features a vibrant core surrounded by highly metallic ironstone. The Boulder Opal variety has been highly polished and presents as a top example of the coveted material. The Opal "window" features incredible play-of-color and lights up with mesmerizing flashes of blue, green, purple, red, orange, yellow, and pink. The Opal's main bodycolor is snow white with a pink undertone. The combination is striking and simply gorgeous. The contrast between the highly polished dark ironstone and the colorful center Opal is breathtaking. The ironstone also features lovely concentric circles of varying shades of earthy browns adding more depth to the already impressive example. This specimen is also quite dense for its size, weighing 60 grams (300 carats) due to the high concentration of Hematite. The reverse side has been left in its natural state to showcase how incredible this material is and how it is mined in hardstone. Australian examples such as this are still some of the most sought after, and they are becoming harder to procure due to challenges in the Australian mining industry. This collectible is a rare example of an excellent material out of a legendary locality with iconic provenance.
Measurements: 1.64 x 1.56 x 0.78 x inches (4.18 x 3.95 x 1.98 cm)
