A large Ethiopian Opal, this elongated oval-shaped cabochon displays gorgeous swaths of play-of-color. The gemstone exhibits semitransparent transparency, falling into the more uncommon 'Jelly/Water' Opal variety, as the mesmerizing 'fire' appears as if suspended within the stone. Uniquely, the Opal shifts in background hue depending on lighting conditions, showing a cool blue base against dark backgrounds and a warm orange hue when viewed against white. All the spectral colors, especially reds and blues, are on full display with a prominent and coveted honeycomb pattern, alongside extensive patches of broadflash patterning. The 78.40-carat cabochon features a high dome, a semi-convex base, and a beveled girdle. Substantial in size and in excellent condition, this Opal is a captivating example of Ethiopia's finest material-perfect for collectors or as the centerpiece of a custom jewelry creation.
