Ethiopian Opals are highly prized for their impressive size and extraordinary play-of-color, and this exceptional 44.06-carat cabochon is a striking example of the variety. Cut in a classic oval form, the gem displays full "fire" with dynamic 360-degree visual impact. Pattern is a critical grading factor for Opals of this caliber, and this stone features a tightly compact and visually compelling diagonal ribbon pattern, animated by flashes spanning the full spectral range. Expertly polished, the Opal is fashioned with a double-domed profile, presenting a medium dome on the primary face and a low dome on the reverse, complemented by a beveled girdle. Its semitranslucent body, paired with a rich reddish yellow background color, allows the stone to glow vividly as it is moved and viewed from different angles. As expected in a natural Opal of this size, a few, very small dark inclusions are present, and the dome is slightly asymmetrical, with one end rising higher than the other; otherwise, the gemstone is in excellent condition.
