Description

Gemstone: Opal - 27.36 Cts.
Ethiopia

Impactful and moody are just two of many adjectives to describe this captivating Ethiopian Opal. Weighing 27.36 carats, the oval-shaped cabochon ignites with a dynamic play-of-color in a unique jigsaw pattern. The stone exhibits a dark, opaque, black background color, the result of industry-accepted heat treatment designed to enhance contrast and amplify the stone's visual intensity. Cut into a medium-domed cabochon with a flat base and a rounded girdle, this Opal is in good overall condition as the dome is just slightly asymmetrical, with one end rising higher than the other. A soft internal haze resulting from the treatment, along with light surface abrasions, is present but does little to diminish the gem's overall impact or appeal. Exhibiting vivid 360-degree fire across the full spectral range, most notably with strong flashes of red and pink, this striking Opal is well-suited for inclusion in a discerning collection or transformation into a custom-crafted jewelry creation.
Measurements: 30.20 x 21.47 x 11.07 mm, 27.36 cts.

Estimate: $500 - up.
