Description

Gemstone: Opal - 16.10 Cts.
Ethiopia

Cut into an elegant, elongated marquis shape, this incredible Ethiopian Opal is highly impactful and striking. The fine, phenomenal gemstone features intense play-of-color with all the colors of the visible spectrum on full display. The popular variety exhibits a mesmerizing, tight snakeskin pattern with large swaths of fire against a dark, bluish black background color. Color dances beautifully across the main display face as the stone is moved and viewed. Having undergone industry-accepted heat treatment, the intense fire pops as the background has been saturated, and the transparency is opaque. The stone is in overall good condition as it does exhibit slight haziness due to the treatment, and there is very minor crazing visible along the side edge. The base shows no play-of-color but is, nonetheless, a pleasing dark blue hue. The modern Ethiopian Opal has been expertly cut with a low dome, flat-cut base, and beveled girdle. The gem is ideal for a custom pendant or ring setting.
Measurements: 38.72 x 13.29 x 7.12 mm, 16.10 cts.
