Australian Opals are highly sought-after and renowned for their intense play-of-color, rarity, rich history, and unique background colors. This almost 20-carat Opal features an oval shape and intense flashes of swirling electric blue and green hues. The stone displays a unique layered effect, where the play-of-color is visible through windows of bluish-black matrix and pops off this Black Opal. The main display face comes to life when viewed with incredible neon coloration. The substantial cabochon features a pleasing oval shape, a low dome, nice polish, and a rounded girdle. The stone is solid and opaque, with a small patch of white potch on the reverse side - attesting to its natural origin. The Opal has a balanced and sophisticated play-of-color, making it an attractive stone for the coveted variety. This Australian export is in great condition and would make a stunning piece of jewelry, although it can be admired loose.
