Description
Gemstone: Black Opal - 17.56 Cts.Australia
Black Opal is one of the most revered varieties on the market, renowned for its beautiful properties and inherent scarcity. This pear-shaped Australian example weighs nearly 18 carats and features incredible play-of-color. Formed over millions of years in some of the harshest environments on Earth, this material is prized for its rarity, wide range of spectral colors, and rich background hues. This particular example is semi-translucent, with a dark background color appearing blackish gray with a hint of purple, creating the perfect stage for vibrant flashes of 'fire.' The stone exhibits great color coverage with thick blocks of color in a chaff pattern. When moved to enhance viewing, this gemstone comes to life with all the spectral colors on full display while featuring a nice, even polish on the primary front face, and the overall proportions are well-balanced. The cabochon has a low dome with a rounded girdle, and the back of the Opal is semi-polished with patches of remnant white potch. This is one incredible Opal in excellent condition that will make the perfect pendant or brooch if set.
Measurements: 30.70 x 18.54 x 5.52 mm, 17.56 cts.
