    Pae White (American, born 1963)
    Widow of a King, 2006
    Corian
    75 x 82-1/2 x 87-1/2 inches (190.5 x 209.6 x 222.3 cm)

Pae White is a Los Angeles-based contemporary artist known for her work blending craft and fine art, bringing an unexpected angle to common forms. Widow of a King is made from four sheets of solid Corian, cut using a CNC machine, resulting in a fully functional decorative bed frame that blends elements of traditional handmade craftsmanship with impersonal machinated production, evoking an uncanny familiarity that is both futuristic and timeless. Her work has been displayed at the Museum of Contemporary art in Los Angeles, MoMA New York, the Hammer Museum, and the Tate Modern, among others.

I wanted the "look" of something that might have been carved in the Black Forest but by an albino alien and I think we came pretty darn close. -Pae White
