"One of my own sons is an emergency medical doctor working in the midst of this crisis in Oregon, and just recently decided to leave his position because his administration is not adequately protecting the healthcare employees; several of his co-workers have become ill and died from the coronavirus, and another created her own company to manufacture gowns and masks because they were not adequately provided by the hospital!
My design assistants found the unusual piece of Redwood Burl with a such an expansive "free edge" that one of the legs came through the top, so they decided to bring through the other legs and wedge them as my father had done in the very early days of his career. As I was sick when they made this decision, it was a surprise to see this "new" old detail, but life is always full of surprises which keep making life interesting! I hope the new owner enjoys it for many years to come, remembering that we should always be open to "surprises" which make our lives richer" - Mira Nakashima

Nakashima Woodworkers was founded by architect and woodworker George Nakashima in 1945. The business continues to create the "antiques of furniture", hand selecting planks from sustainably harvested hardwoods for each project. Each piece of furniture is created through an integrated process with designer and craftsman, guided by Mira Nakashima.
