    With green marble top, the rectangular case decorated with Greek key borders along the sides, fall front, and cupboard doors enclosing musical and floral marquetry, the burl ash veneer interior fitted with blue velvet writing surface and four drawers, the cupboard further embellished with burl ash and mahogany and fitted with four sliding drawers, key included

    Charles-Guillaume Diehl was a furniture maker of a variety of styles of furniture, but small pieces and work tables were more prevalent. He also created boulle and pietre dure furniture. He exhibited in Paris in 1855, the Industrial Arts in 1861, the 1867 Paris Exhibition, and a number of other exhibitions. In 1870, Diehl employed over 600 workers. Some of his works are now in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
