DescriptionManner of RENE LALIQUE
A Three-Panel Embossed and Gilt Leather Folding Room Screen, probably English, London, circa 1905
72-1/4 x 60-3/4 inches (183.5 x 154.3 cm) extended
A screen of the same dimension and standard of manufacture, patterned with birds on pine branches and attributed to Rene Lalique in design, is in the permanent collection of the Hakone Museum, Hakone, Japan. The treatment of the peacock on this example conforms closely with Rene Lalique's designs for peacocks in fabric of 1906 (Marcilhac, p. 38), and in particular to the peacock centerpiece illustrated in "Art et Decoration" in 1900 and exhibited by Lalique at Agnew in London in 1905.
Overall in good condition. Surface wear and scuffs, especially at the joins, as commensurate with age.
