Maarten Baas' Smoke series was first developed while he was attending Design Academy Eindhoven. These works, which received international acclaim through exhibitions at Moss, New York, are comprised of found pieces, typically iconic designs, which are burned through torch by Baas in his studio. Each work is identified by Baas as a form which has been influential and important to him, which he then alters, reinvents and remakes in his own hand, through the act of burning.
