This important and rare firescreen was included in one of Carlo Bugatti's most elaborate and ambitious private design commissions. The present lot was part of the orientalist bedroom furnishings for British aristocrat and patron, Lord Battersea. This commission marked the crescendo of his "exotic" phase, and the firescreen itself looks forward to his avant-garde sculptural style that was the toast of the Turin exposition in 1902.
Overall in very good condition, parchment has been professionally cleaned, decoration appears to have been slightly refreshed at some point, minor staining on one face only as visible in the catalogue illustration , no damage to the parchment, the parchment wheel turns freely, all copper and pewter elements intact and original with pleasing patina no splitting to wood, generally in very fine condition with excellent presentation. Outstanding Lord Battersea, London provenance, an iconic example of Bugatti's work.
