    The amboyna cabinet on four turned feet, two doors with central ivory panel inlaid with foliate scrolls framed with ivory stringing and panels embellished with pen work, stringing to cabinet sides mirroring design of front, ebonized molding at top and bottom, key unlocks doors which open to reveal series of eight drawers each with an ivory knob and inlaid ivory panel embellished with a scene of cherubs at play, a single lower drawer of three panels, drawers surround central door inlaid with columned architectural surround centering arched ivory panel of classically dressed female, door opens to open compartment with two drawers at top with ivory stringing.

    This cabinet is one of a group of similar pieces, including an example in the collection of the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland, which can be identified as having been produced in Antwerp during the first half of the seventeenth century.

    Condition Report*: cabinet with key, in overall very good to excellent restored condition, ivory intact.  Detailed report: Top:  minor surface scratching and fading to finish. Left side:  back edge with minor nick and loss of wood Right side:  upper left corner replacement of veneer Front left door exterior:  lower left side replacement of veneer Front left door interior:  hinge openings reduced, hinges replaced Front right door exterior:  ok Front right door interior:  hinge openings reduced, hinges replaced Cabinet interior:  fine Moldings and feet: minor nicks to ebonized molding
