Arthur Espenet Carpenter (American, 1920-2006)
Unique Dining Table, 1987
Walnut with inlay, enameled steel, glass
28-1/2 x 67 inches (72.4 x 170.2 cm)
Signed Espenet 8706

PROVENANCE:
Acquired directly from the artist, 1987.

En suite with the set of six armchairs, this dining table was acquired directly from Arthur Espenet Carpenter's Bolinas, California studio by the owner in 1987. It features a black and red enameled steel base, sculpted to complement the simplicity of the round top, with a circular cutout in the top, visually opening it to the cylinder below. It is an unusual and compelling incorporation of sculpted steel, rarely seen throughout the Carpenter's extensive and seminal body of work.
