    Abbott Miller
Abbott Miller is a partner at the international design ?rm Pentagram. While he works primarily as a graphic designer, he has developed a specialization in the hybrid world of exhibition design. His collaborations with curators and museums have included a number of innovative exhibitions-including "The Couch: Thinking in Repose" at The Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna and the permanent exhibitions for the new Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. Miller co-curated the Design for a Living World exhibition with Ellen Lupton and traveled to Santa Cruz, Bolivia where he developed his idea for using Bolivian plywood to make a chair.

"We were inspired by the astounding variety and beauty of Bolivian woods and by the ingenuity of the vernacular design and architecture in Santa Cruz. The strong traditions of woodworking show through in the factories we visited," Miller says.

Design for a Living World asks us to think about the products we use-where they come from, how they are made and the impacts they have on our planet.
The Nature Conservancy invited ten designers to create new OBJECTS from sustainable MATERIALS sourced from the world. Wood, plants, wool and other organic materials were transformed into intriguing objects, revealing extraordinary stories about regeneration and the human connection to the Earth's lands and waters. Together, designers and consumers can reshape our material economy and help to advance a global conservation ethics by choosing sustainable materials that support, rather than deplete, endangered PLACES.
