A French Louis XV-Style Gilt Bronze Mounted Bureau Plat After a Model by Jacques B. Dubois, 19th century
    31-1/2 x 78 x 38-1/4 inches (80.0 x 198.1 x 97.2 cm) (desk)

The bureau plat is an almost exact copy of the desk made by Jacques Dubois in the 18th century, that Benjamin Franklin used to sign the Treaty of Alliance with France on in 1778 at the Hotel de Crillon in Paris. This was one of the first historic treaties between nations with the newly forming United States.

The original bureau plat is in the Louve, and this unique copy was constructed copying the exact gilt bronze mounts and is a stunning example of Fine French furniture from the late 19th century. The front center drawer retains a bronze plaque inscribed TABLE DE L'INDÉPENDANCE DES ETATS. UNiS D'AMERIQUE DiTE TABLE VERGENNES.

Research has this desk featured in etchings of the period with the unique bronzes shown prominently and suggests that it may have been made for a special Paris Exhibition in the late 19th century.
