    PROPERTY FROM A DALLAS COLLECTION

The present lot is inspired by the mechanical table commissioned by Pierre-Elisabeth de Fontanieu for use in the Hotel du Garde-Meuble, Paris. The original example was made in 1771 by Jean-Henri Riesener, shortly before Riesener became the principal supplier to Fontanieu. Both Alfred Emmanuel Louis Beurdeley and François Linke crafted several reproductions of Riesener's table, available as a direct copy or fitted with a marble top. The original Riesener commission now resides in the permanent collection of the Musée de Versailles.

Literature: Christopher Payne, François Linke, 1855-1946, the Belle Epoque of French Furniture, 2003, p. 490, no. 251.

Condition Report*: Few very minor inactive wormholes, French polish possibly contemporary, few minor errant scratches, reverses of gilt bronze mounts unmarked, iterations of this table exhibit gilt bronze laurel swags to corners devoid from this example, presenting very well with wear commensurate with age and use.
