    A Fine George II Japanned and Partial Gilt Wooden Secretary, 18th century
    87 h x 40-3/4 w x 21-1/2 d inches (221.0 x 103.5 x 54.6 cm)

    The secretaire surmounted by Rococo-style carved and reticulated gilt double-bonnet, below to two tombstone doors with elaborate painted village scene, chased gilt bronze accents to hinges, corner bracket trims, and lockplate, interior with gilt avian and animal motifs to doors, open upper compartment below to ten drawers with conforming court and landscape motifs to fronts and chased bronze pulls, lower case with three drawers, upper drawer pulls out to reveal writing surface and letter compartments and drawers all of conforming decoration, case raised on scrolled fluted feet.

    Condition Report*: Illustrations to interior door likely restored or of later vintage, some craquelure to finish, desk surface rests slightly downward when opened, replaced leather writing surface, scattered age-related cracking, scattered nicks and chipping, lower cornice to left side of case above feet unattached but included, some paint touch-ups, some areas of strengthening to board seams to reverse boards and interior drawer bottoms, restorations to bonnet, with wear commensurate with age and use; key to doors is static, no key is included for lower drawers.
