    Description

FROM THE ESTATE OF KENNETH KENDALL, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

    WILLIAM ETTY (British, 1787-1849)
    Reclining Nude
    Oil on panel
    14 x 21-3/4 inches (35.6 x 55.2 cm)

In a letter dated September 27, 1957, Sir Ellis Waterhouse states of this painting; "The Etty is a perfectly characteristic piece - he did a great many studies of this sort on board."

Accompanying this painting of a female nude by Etty is a framed aquatint of a life drawing class at Somerset House by Thomas Rowlandson. The owner, artist Kenneth Kendall, considered the two works to be iconographically related so they are being offered together in one lot.
