    Published by Modern Master's Tapestries, Inc., New York

    From the "Modern Master Tapestries" exhibition produced by the Charles E. Slatkin Galleries in New York, twenty-two Pop Art and Abstract Expression artists translated their pictorial language into the ancient art of weaving. Tapestry was intended as a term for wall hangings and floor coverings. Frank Stella applied this work to a few different tapestries in planned editions of up to 20 for Modern Masters Tapestries, Inc. This particular tapestry is based on his River of Ponds creations, and is understood to have been produced in an edition of only 7 in a ten-foot square format.

    The Charles E. Slatkin Galleries, New York, purchased 1971;
    Acquired from the estate of a Dallas collector, 2013.
