    Description

    TRILOBITE PAIR WITH CYSTOID
    Subasaphus platyurus
    Middle Ordovician
    Wolchow River, NW Russia

This appealing plate features two Trilobites of differing sizes and a Cystoid uniquely oriented on the same matrix. From a famous locality near St. Petersburg, Russia, the examples of Subasaphus platyurus measure 3 inches (7.62 cm) and 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) in length, respectively, while the Cystoid measures well over 1 inch (2.54 cm) in diameter. The Trilobites are in pristine condition with only the big specimen showing repair to its genal spines. The shell material has been removed on the Cystoid to reveal the crystalline Calcite "filling" typically found inside such pieces. These two Trilobites are precusors to later species that evolved more pronounced eye stalks called "peduncles". The "bonus" Cystoid is an extinct echinoderm Echinosphaerites sp. rounding out this triumvirate of fossil specimens.
    Overall Measurements: 10 x 8 x 2 inches (25.4 x 20.32 x 5.08 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
