Description

Trilobite Fossils
Phacops
Devonian
Alnif, Sahara Desert, Morocco

This significant and decorative specimen consists of a trio of larger Phacops Trilobites on a sizable piece of classic "stippled" and smoothed matrix. A serious piece from Morocco, this assemblage dating to the Devonian Period features three ancient black arthropods with excellent form and definition. The fossils have all been expertly prepared and restored for display. Evaluation under ultraviolet light indicates the presence of some adhesive substances and relatively minor repairs hardly visible to the naked eye. An elegant and simple metal base accompanies the rock, designed to showcase the piece in a dramatic and vertical fashion. The hearty marine creatures exhibit the distinctive lobes for which the variety is named, and details like the compound visual systems are well-preserved. One of the benthic 'bugs' is in a partially curled position, being "submarined" by another of the two, which are fully extended. The size and quality of the fossils make this much more than just a visually impactful specimen. The arid Sahara Desert was once the ocean floor where this iconic member of the Paleozoic Era patrolled the prehistoric sea waters.
Measurements: 12.60 x 6.89 x 3.74 inches (32.00 x 17.50 x 9.50 cm)
