Description

Trilobite Fossils
Phacops & Ceratarges
Devonian
Morocco

The most exciting attribute of this Trilobite fossil may be that it has two very different and distinctive varieties on the matrix. The underlying rock is dark gray with a light gray "strip" where the duo of the prehistoric arthropods is preserved. A complex, otherworldly Ceratarges, with prominent and curved genal spines protruding from its undulating and lobed body, is visually striking and quite intimidating, with the delicate and fragile appendages defying explanation. The second player in this ancient scene consists of an iconic Phacops with nice detail and fine preservation. The black marine creature boasts defined segments, raised visual structures, and an outstanding texture. Both "bugs" are impressive, so the fact there are two on this single offering makes it really special. While restoration is necessary and typical with such Moroccan Trilobites, this piece does not show excessive preparation or an abundance of work. This is a very appealing pair of Paleozoic fossils going in opposite directions on this ocean floor.
Measurements: 4.92 x 3.35 x 1.97 inches (12.50 x 8.50 x 5.00 cm)
