    Trilobite Fossil
    Arctinurus boltoni
    Middle Silurian
    Rochester Shale Formation
    Middleport, New York, USA

With all the numerous varieties of Trilobites in the world, having the title of being the quintessential American example is quite a designation. The vaunted Arctinurus carries the distinction well which is a logical result given that this type of Trilobite is only found in one locality - the Rochester Shale outside of Buffalo, New York, and there are only a few specimens of the genre being collected each year making it a very rare and uncommon Trilobite indeed. This otherworldly example is considered by experts to be one of the best prepped specimens which is not surprising given its beautiful presentation and wonderful texture. The dark brown shell exhibits exquisite detail and is ideally preserved in the medium gray block of shale in which it is housed. The ancient "alien" has virtually no restoration which further testifies to its top quality grading. This is simply an exceptional fossil, from a single locality with limited annual production. The fossil itself measures approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm) long and 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) wide.
    Overall Measurements: 8.86 x 7.87 x 1.18 inches (22.50 x 20.00 x 3.00 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
