With an extremely minor amount of restoration, this sizable example of Drotops armatus from the Middle Devonian of Morocco is one very serious Trilobite. On a classic gray metamorphosed matrix, with a white Calcite interstice crossing the rock, this massive black arthropod is characterized by the many and impressive shorter spines. Exhibiting a slight upturn to the form, this dynamic "bug" measures a considerable 5 inches (12.7 cm) from end to end. The luster is dull, and there are a lot of finer details to the sections of this benthic marine creature, including two excellently preserved compound eyes. Given that most such Trilobites are smaller and highly restored, this one is a treasure.
