Description

LARGE TRILOBITE MASS MORTALITY
Dikelocephalus sp.
Ordovician
Morocco

This is a fantastically well-preserved and evocative mass mortality plate, featuring one of the larger species of trilobite, the Dikelocephalinus. Often taken as one of the archetypal genera of this strange creature, distinguished by its broad head and relatively well-developed eyes, their distinctive dark rust coloring stands out in striking aesthetic contrast to the pale grey Moroccan limestone. Each of these 18 specimens measures between 7½ and 8½ inches long and are naturally positioned on their 35½ x 27½ inch matrix plate.
