Description

Trilobite Fossil
Asaphus sp.
Middle Ordovician
Russia
4.33 x 2.93 x 2.06 inches (11.01 x 7.43 x 5.23 cm)

This distinctive Asaphus Trilobite from Russia displays the elongated eye stalks that have made members of this genus especially prized among Trilobite collectors. Fine segmentation remains visible across the smoothly arched exoskeleton, while the elevated presentation highlights the unusual anatomy and sculptural character of the specimen. The delicate stalked eyes are preserved with impressive completeness, a notable achievement given the fragility of these slender structures, with restoration and repair present as expected for such a challenging fossil. Warm caramel-brown coloration contrasts naturally against the pale matrix, enhancing the visual separation between fossil and stone. Both scientifically intriguing and highly displayable, this Trilobite represents a striking example of one of the Paleozoic Era's most unusual arthropods.

Estimate: $600 - up.
