This monster of a Trilobite is Drotops armatus, which even sounds ominous. This incredible fossil shows an abundance of sharp spiny points rising off its large and partially curled body. The fossil features a two toned coloration with a dusting of saffron color over a dull grayish-black hue. The unusual color palette of this example definitely adds to its visual appeal. This variety of the prehistoric creature stands out as being larger than most other types of Trilobites and resembles the more common Phacops variety with bumpy pustules primarily over its glabella. This specimen even displays spines on its guarded eye areas. This piece is highly detailed and showcases the various attribute that set Drotops apart from the others.
