    Yellow Cat Banded "Redwood" Pair
    Brushy Basin Member
    Morrison Formation
    Utah, USA

Serious collectors will be quite familiar with Yellow Cat Petrified Wood from Utah. This gemmy material from the Jurassic is often associated with Dinosaur Bones and has a unique and majestic attractiveness, which anyone can appreciate. This irregular yet matching pair of the ancient "Redwood" features banding of a very linear nature on the smooth polished, slightly convex windowed surfaces of the rocky material. The glassy faces have a haunting and smoky charcoal coloration which highlight the white lines that are in stark contrast to the background. The rugged exterior of the agatized wood is rocky with dull red and greenish-gray covering the craggy coating. Often classified as "fortification" Agates, Yellow Cat can be a variety with banding which parallels the inner wall lining of the space within the host matrix. This example is essentially a cast from an ancient conifer tree. The pair is not big, but the impact and collectability of this duo is hard to underestimate and even harder to resist.
