    Upper Triassic
    Molteno Formation, Charama Plateau
    WNW of Gokwe, Midlands Zimbabwe

This petrified wood log is rather long at two and a half feet and is polished on both ends to show the beauty of the internal structure. The long log exhibits no repairs making it a very collectible specimen. This fossil Conifer - a gymnosperm cone-bearing seed plant with vascular tissue - features small "dimples" on the exterior - which are remnants of gum ducts - as well as a number of fine knots which add to the aesthetic appeal of the piece. The log was excavated from a remote area of Zimbabwe where other types of wood including Rhexoxylon (and early seed fern) and Woodworthia are also found. This is both a large and a fine specimen and displays a nice color scheme that includes pastel browns and even mavue.
    Log - 30 inches (76.2 cm) long.
    Polished ends - 5.25 x 4.75 inches (13.34 x 12.07 cm) and 3.75 x 4.25 inches (9.53 x 10.8 cm).
    Offered at no reserve.
