This massive jet black slab of Araucria measures an astounding 15.5 inches (39.4 cm) in diameter. This extinct evergreen conifer has been sliced to maximize the appearance of the internal growth rings and cell structure, which somewhat resemble white "clouds." Additionally, there are "streams" and a central pocket of drusy clear and "gold" Quartz crystal contrasting strongly against the onyx colored wood. The wood gets its color from the distinct Black Forest Beds which are made up of brown-weathering, limestone-pebble conglomerates which have replaced the original organic material of the wood during fossilization. Also, the rind is well preserved on this amazingly impressive slab.
