    Description

    Petrified Wood Log
    Tree Fern Tietea
    Lower Permian
    Motuca Formation
    Bielandia Filadelfia County, Tocantins, Brazil
    6.34 x 4.33 x 5.12 inches (16.10 x 11.00 x 13.00 cm)

This Petrified Wood "stump" measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) as a log and has both ends polished to reveal the preserved vascular structure of the ancient tree fern. The roundish vascular bundles are visible in the pattern of the smooth surfaces. The original bark of the prehistoric wood has been preserved in a most "realistic" way as the bumpy texture of the outer skin of the tree section is hardened rock but is reminiscent of living tree bark. This is overall a fantastic specimen with lots of intrigue and definitely a decorative value. The piece is without question an interesting specimen worthy of further study, but it is also simply a wonderful example of a unique form of Petrified Wood made into an ideal sized offering.
