PETRIFIED WOOD
Petrified Wood End CutOak
Miocene, Gem Hill Formation
Boron, California, USA
This end cut piece, of highly collectible Petrified Wood from the Gem Hill Formation in Boron, California, is a study in contrasts, or, perhaps more appropriately, two sides of the same coin. This stunning specimen features a polished surface with a bold cream, rich brown, and bright blue mix of colors all gently swirling together. This is not the typical "rainbow" variety of Petrified Wood from Arizona, but also not quite the austere material out of the Pacific Northwest, which tends to be very earthy and often lacking much real color at all. On the other hand, this piece also has a bulbous "knot" where the original log terminated. The craggy rough surface shows intense texture and a blend of off-white, tan, and caramel coloration. This is a very interesting specimen when viewed either way, and the two "faces" could not be more different in appeal. Overall Measurements: 10.6 x 5.7 x 2.4 inches (27.0 x 14.5 x 6.0 cm)
