    Description

    PETRIFIED PERSIMMON SLAB
    Diospyros sp.
    Miocene, Fleming Formation
    Walker County, Texas, USA

Sometimes an accidental discovery can be more exciting than finding something during a planned dig, due to the unexpected surprise aspects. That was the case when this sharp-edged unusual log of Petrified Persimmon was found near Huntsville, Texas, during a large construction project, while grading a foundation. What makes this piece even more unique is that it was the only log found at the site, whereas typically multiple logs are usually found at a given site. This well-preserved log shows common box rot that attacked the log prior to petrification. This example of Diospyros is quite similar to Persimmon trees growing today. Its interesting shape, intricate brown color patterns and surprisingly sharp edges all combine to make this a very intriguing piece of Texas Petrified Wood.
    Overall Measurements: 12 x 9.75 x 0.69 inches (30.48 x 24.77 x 1.75 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
