Description

Petrified Conifer Log
Araucarioxylon arizonicum
Triassic
Chinle Formation, Painted Desert Member
Upper End Mackelprang Wash, Navajo County, Arizona, USA

Standing some 7 inches (18 cm), this is not a small example, and the colorful offering is definitely a display piece, given the green felt pad on the flat bottom of the specimen. Of course, this is a rather unique piece of Petrified Wood, with an extremely rare green coloration due to the presence of the mineral Chromium. Highly prized by collectors, such vibrant material, especially out of Arizona, is not often seen and always carries a premium valuation. Featuring a polished window face, with an angular overlap revealing the intense color of the interior, this mass of Triassic botanical remnant boasts a mountainous form of rocky bark-like sections and a slight twist from a dual point sticking out consistent with its original past life as a tree limb. Weighing some 6 pounds (2.7 kg), this is one sizable specimen of exotic Petrified Wood. As complex as it is beautiful, this piece does represent one extraordinary example of uncommon material. Such a piece of Chromium Wood is a treasure.
Measurements: 7.09 x 6.10 x 4.13 inches (18.00 x 15.50 x 10.50 cm)
