    Description

    Fossil Leaves
    Beringiaphyllum cupanoides & Davidia antiqua
    Paleocene
    Fort Union Formation
    Glendive, Montana, USA

This significant fossil plate features two well-preserved Paleocene leaves from the famous Fort Union Formation of Montana. The craggy matrix rock housing the two leaves from different species - a large Beringiaphyllum cupanoides measuring 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) and a smaller Davidia antiqua measuring 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) - is a mottled dull gray with highlights of golden rust speckling the entire face. The botanical fossil remnants both exhibit a palmate venation and fine detail. The larger plant appendage has a rich brown coloration, while the smaller example is a much lighter, golden hue. The fossil leaves are offset and not centered giving the piece a very natual appeal. The larger leaf has a truncated edge on one side resulting in it being ever so slightly incomplete while the smaller version is fully intact. Both were likely treated with a light coating of Vinac to stabilize the leaf surfaces. As an added bonus there are some fossil impressions on the back side of this appealing piece.
    Overall Measurements: 10.04 x 9.33 x 1.56 inches (25.50 x 23.70 x 3.95 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
