    Description

    Fossil Leaf
    Beringiaphyllum cupanoides
    Paleocene
    Fort Union Formation
    Glendive, Montana
    6.06 x 5.12 x 1.40 inches (15.40 x 13.00 x 3.55 cm)

This incredible Paleocene leaf has a visible pinnate venation, and the attractive deep orangey-brown fossil stands out prominently from its rocky gray matrix. The dark, nearly golden hued plant remnant exhibits excellent preservation across the entirety of the once delicate surface. Of particular note for this specimen is the presence of the stem from the base of the leaf which drops downward 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) extending the overall size of the ancient botanical. The rock has been cut flat allowing for the piece to stand without a base. The leaf is cradled in a nook on an uneven surface of the gray matrix. This is an excellent example of the recognizable fossils from a famous locality. It's the perfect fall decoration and did not come from a chain store, making it one-of-a-kind.
