Description

Fossil Leaf
Davidia antiqua
Paleocene
Fort Union Formation
Glendive, Montana, USA
9.49 x 5.20 x 1.06 inches (24.10 x 13.20 x 2.70 cm)

This attractive slab features a visually balanced pair of Davidia antiqua fossil leaves, preserved in striking detail within the Paleocene-aged matrix of the Fort Union Formation. The rich russet coloration of the leafy forms contrasts beautifully with the light beige matrix, highlighting prominent venation and margins. Davidia antiqua, an extinct relative of the modern dove tree, provides a rare record of early Cenozoic flora in North America. The slab's composition and clear presentation make it particularly well-suited for cabinet display.
