    Description

    Fossil Fish
    Phareodus encaustus
    Eocene
    Green River Formation

    Wyoming, USA

This very large and impressive fossil fish is a Phareodus, a predatory fish made famous by the Green River Formation Lagerst├Ątte. The exceptional example evidences superb preservation including the sharp and pointed teeth of the serious predator. The fossil has an extremely aesthetic appearance with the brown fossil in the heart of a yellowish-tan matrix capped off with an ornate wooden frame. The thick piece is rather heavy, but it is designed for wall hanging. The fossil fish is just shy of 24 inches (61 cm) in length, and the ancient creature has been expertly prepared to highlight the superb condition of the head, the vertebral column and all the fins. This is a great-looking specimen presented in a most elegant manner.
    Overall Measurements: 38.00 x 28.00 x 2.30 inches (96.52 x 71.12 x 5.84 cm)

    Provenance: Central Coast Collection
