This graceful fern frond of Pecopteris is beautifully preserved in fine-grained Shale, its delicate leaflets sharply defined against the stone matrix. The symmetry and completeness of the primary frond, paired with a smaller secondary impression nearby, make this an especially attractive example of Carboniferous flora. Dark carbonized material contrasts dramatically with the pale sediment, emphasizing the fern's elegant, tapering form. This well-detailed specimen captures the lush plant life that once thrived in Missouri's ancient coal forests and would make a striking addition to any paleobotanical collection.
